STEPHEN SHAPIRO

Managing Partner

Buckingham Hotel, New York

Stephen Shapiro is the Managing Partner of the Buckingham, a stylish family-owned boutique hotel offering relaxing city accommodations combined with a rich cultural history in the heart of Manhattan. Mr. Shapiro has overseen the renovation, repositioning and strategic direction of the hotel and supervises all activities related to the property’s asset development, general operations and guest service.

Mr. Shapiro has more than twenty years of experience in real estate, both as a legal professional and as a developer, owner and manager of real property.  After graduation from Columbia Law School, he joined Webster and Sheffield and served as attorney on transactions for large and small developers and owners.  Later, he joined Estroff, Waldman & Poretsky and acted on behalf of various New York City developers for major real estate transactions including for Tishman Realty & Construction, Morgan Stanley Realty and Lazard Fréres. His work involved acquisition, financing and development of projects from hotels to large commercial properties. 

Mr. Shapiro is a member of numerous professional organizations. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the National Institute of Military Justice and was an officer of the American Branch of the International Law Association. He has rendered substantial service in a pro bono capacity in the area of national security, twice charing the New York City Bar Association’s Committee on Military Affairs and Justice and also its Committee for International Security Affairs. In that capacity he authored numerous studies and papers in connection with such matters as the war on terrorism, the use of force and ‘child soldiers,’ including four that have been published.

In addition to his role at the Buckingham Hotel and his comprehensive legal/real estate background, Mr. Shapiro has a number of other civic involvements and affiliations.  He is a member of the United Nations Association-USA Council of Fellows, the Arms Control Association, the Foreign Policy Association, Business Executives for National Security and had been accredited to the United Nations Department of Public Information as an NGO representative. He has also worked in politics, including managing a Congressional campaign (8th Congressional District, PA) and assisting Eliot Spitzer in his race for New York Attorney General

Mr. Shapiro graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Brandeis University with a degree in Politics. He received his Juris Doctor Degree from Columbia University School of Law, where he was an editor of the Transnational Law Journal and was named a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. He was admitted to the bar in 1982.

Mr. Shapiro lives in Manhattan with his wife Amy, a veterinarian, and their two pugs Leonardo and Winston.

 

LISA GROSSBERG

General Manager

Buckingham Hotel, New York 

Ms. Grossberg has an extensive background in hotel and restaurant management in the New York area and brings more than 12 years of hospitality experience to her position. 

 

She was recently the Assistant General Manager of the Shelburne Murray Hill Hotel in New York.  In this capacity she was accountable for effectively monitoring and actively participating in the sales efforts of the hotel while maintaining positive employee/management relations within a newly acquired hotel.  She has also held positions of Front Office Manager for the Shelburne Murray Hill Hotel and Assistant Reception Manager for the Sheraton Manhattan Hotel, New York.

Following her years with the Shelburne, she served as the Corporate Guest Rooms Director at the YMCA of Greater New York, and in this role provided leadership and direction for developing and managing guest room programs as well as highly-successful revenue managemeLisa Grossberg is the General Manager at the Buckingham, a stylish family-owned boutique hotel offering relaxing city accommodations combined with a rich cultural history in the heart of Manhattan. Ms. Grossberg is primarily responsible for overseeing all daily operations at the property, including sales and marketing goals, staffing and administrative duties and establishing and maintaining the highest standards of guest service and ambiance.nt strategies for over 1200 rooms at 7 different hospitality facilities located throughout the five boroughs of New York City.

Ms. Grossberg is graduate of Nassau Community College, New York in the field of Hotel and Restaurant Management.

LYNN CHAN

Director of Sales

Chan recently joined the Buckingham as Director of Sales.  Previous, she worked with the Holiday Inn Martinique where she was Senior Sales Manager.  She earlier served as Sales Manager and Group Manager, respectively, for midtown Manhattan’s Empire Hotel and the Mayflower Hotel, both of which were formerly located near the Buckingham.  Prior to that, Chan worked as Assistant Hotel Manager for the Regal Hong Kong Hotel and Group Manager for New York’s Park Central.
