Spring Blooms 15K Orchid Extravaganza
03/27/2007

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Spring Blooms 15K Orchid Extravaganza

(New York, NY –  March 2007) — To shake off March’s bitter cold, Rockefeller Center is preparing for one of New York’s first signs of spring – The New York International Orchid Show from April 18th to 22nd.  To celebrate the festival of these beautiful and coveted flowers, the Buckingham Hotel is offering affluent orchid enthusiasts the Ultimate Orchid Adventure.  For $15,000, buyers can immerse themselves in an orchid adventure akin to John Laroche in Susan Orlean’s acclaimed novel, The Orchid Thief.

The journey begins at the luxurious Buckingham Hotel’s penthouse suite, where guests will find rare orchids and a signed copy of The Orchid Thief waiting for them in the 2,000 square foot rooftop aerie, which features a stainless steel kitchen, king and queen bedrooms, sprawling living room, two bathrooms, fireplace and terrace with a wrap around view overlooking Carnegie Hall and Central Park.

Just a short walk away from the Buckingham Hotel, thousands of orchids will be on display at Rockefeller Center.  Next door at the Rock Center Café, the special guests will indulge in Orchid-themed drinks like the Violet Orchid Mojito before heading to the Acqua Beauty Bar for a relaxing orchid pedicure.

After two nights of opulence at the Buckingham Hotel, the lucky adventurers will be flown first class deep into the Florida Everglades, where the real quest for rare orchids will begin.  On an overnight eco-adventure led by a knowledgeable naturalist guide from North American Canoe Tours, guests will kayak through the lush Everglades Backcountry.   The orchid adventurers will experience alligators swimming under their tents, watch hundreds of birds flying from their rookeries at sunrise, lie on their backs watching for shooting stars and paddle through narrow mangrove tunnels in search of Orchids.  The adventure ends with a first class flight back to any destination in the U.S.

For orchid lovers on a tighter budget, the Buckingham is offering an Orchid Show Package starting at $369 per night.   The package includes a stay at the Buckingham Hotel, tickets to the New York International Orchid Show, a copy of The Orchid Thief, a potted orchid and orchid-themed drinks at the Rock Center Café.

For further details, travelers can visit the Buckingham Hotel web site at www.buckinghamhotel.com or call toll free at 888-511-1900.  These specials may be booked by using the promotional code, “Buckingham Orchid Package.”

*A minimum of two nights required.
